Privacy Policy
Digital Climbing Book ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Digital Climbing Book mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App.
Please read this privacy policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, please do not access the App.
1. Information We Collect
We may collect information about you in a variety of ways. The information we may collect via the App includes:
- Personal Data: Name, email address, username, and profile photo that you voluntarily provide when registering for the App. I mean, this is just saved to a database, and that is owned and paid for by the application so legally speaking that is just defining this has to exist for the application to work.
- Climbing Data: Climb logs, grades, crag visits, quest history, and other activity data you create within the App. This is also saved, but it's manually input and canbe adjusted so no data here would ever be used against anyone.
- Device Data: Information about your mobile device, including device model, operating system version, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information. I guess this gets tracked to help find bugs. It's not bad but it does help as operating systems change. Unfortunately this has to be in our legal terms, but trust that it's only used for debugging and to reference logs for prioritizing fixes.
- Location Data: With your permission, we may collect approximate location data which is taken only by the climbs listed on your account. This helps us understand which areas of the world require more support or better data to include more climbs.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account
- Provide and maintain the App's functionality
- Generate personalized climbing sessions (Quest feature)
- Display relevant crag and route information
- Improve and optimize the App experience
- Monitor and analyze trends
3. Disclosure of Your Information
We may share information we have collected about you in certain situations:
- Service Providers: We may share your information with third-party service providers that perform services for us, including cloud hosting, authentication, and analytics.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information where required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
- Business Transfers: We may share or transfer your information in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
Amendment: We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We personally do not like the last line about a merger or acquisition but to future proof the application and anyone who would want to preserve their climbing data in the event of uncontrollable future circumstances this should stay in our terms. There is no intention to sell this application or is there any desire to sell your data. This is for climbers to get value out of climbing things. There are goals to scale features to add more value to users but not to profit on the data. The data you put in this application is yours just as much as it is documented and a part of the application for it to work. Because there are large language models on the internet that take data from all over, just be careful in tat regard. The models used in the app are within the app and do not share the data externally. Regarding the more law abiding line, if any urban climbs are included in your climbing book archive be mindful of what other data you are keeping in the application as a lot of systems live online and can be accessed without us providing any information. We want to protect climbers just as much as we want to protect the rocks and law.
4. Third-Party Services
The App may use the following third-party services:
- Clerk: Authentication and user management
- Supabase: Media storage for profile images
- Neon: Database hosting for climbing data
Each third-party service has its own privacy policy governing the use of your information. We encourage you to review their policies.
5. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your personal information. However, no electronic transmission over the Internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
6. Data Retention
We will retain your personal information only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this privacy policy. We will retain and use your information to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our policies.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access and receive a copy of your personal data
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your personal data
- Object to or restrict processing of your data

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the information below.
